K.S Ravi Kumar has Surya and Nayanthara together for the first time.
The Surya-Harris Jayaraj combination is once again going to rock after doing back to back musical hits Vaaranam Aayiram and Ayan. The film will also have Vadivel in a comic role.
The story is by comedian N.S.Rameshkhanna better known as Ramesh Kanna, cinematography is by Ra.Ganesh, art director is Rajeevan, editor is Don Max and stunts are by Kanal Kannan. The film is co-produced by M.Senbagamurthy and R.Arjun Dorai.
The Aadhavan team today took some time off from their shooting to felicitate Saroja Devi and Nayanthara. Both of them have been named in the State Government's Kalaimamani awardees list. The unit, along with producer Udhayanidhi Stalin presented bouquets to Saroja Devi and Nayanthara. With two members of their lead cast being honored by the State government, it certainly looks like a fortuitous beginning for the Aadhavan team.

The pre-release publicity campaign of the film was that it was a laugh riot, but actually the film is in the action genre with a larger-than-life hero who is uneducated and has a tremendous sense of humour.There is nothing new in director Suraaj's story which seems to have been etched out of various earlier films including Run. It may sound strange, but there is a scene in the film where the heroine Tamaannaah smitten by the hero Dhanush sees him all around her (on Television, newspaper etc) as her mind plays games with her. Two days back we saw the same scene as Nayanthara's saw Vijay in her imaginations in Villu!
Radhakrishnan(Dhanush) alias Rocky is an 10th fail youngster who is looked down upon by his father (Pratap Pothen), as the rest of the family of brothers, sister and sister's-in-law consists of all educated and well placed people. Our hero's main job is to idle away his time in a mechanic shop with his group of friends (Mayilsami, Nellai Siva and others). 'Padikathavan and 10th failed' as his father refers to him, doubles up as a petty goon when his family members are in trouble.
One of his friends suggest that he falls in love with a highly educated girl, so earnestly he looks around by hovering around women's colleges. So he falls in love with Gayathri (Tamaannah) a rich girl who after a few misunderstandings and dream songs falls for him.
Meanwhile there are some goons after her, as her father is SamarasingaReddy (Suman) a deadly don in Andhra. Our hero saves her from her dad's rival (Sayaji Shinde) and follows to her home in Hyderabad, where he realizes that another Tirunelveli goon Kasi Anandan (Atul Kulkarni) has put a prize on his head!
In the first half, the light hearted comedy of Dhanush is thoroughly enjoyable, especially his one liners and dialogues like Enna mathiri pasangala partha pidikathu. Parka parka thaan pidikkum. However in the second half there is crude comedy of Vivek, especially the scene where Vivek dressed as a woman in a temple pond is pawed by two other comedians under water!
The dialogue that Suman mouths that those who are educated think only of themselves while the uneducated have consideration for his fellowmen is in bad taste especially when the government policy is for total literacy.
Dhanush is in top form as he has never danced so well and has improved a lot in action (the climax fight is outstanding) and comedy while keeping his boy-next-door image intact. He has scored in the first half with his subtle comedy and clever one-liners that gets him the maximum claps.
Tamannaah is pure eye-candy but the romance between the lead pair lacks chemistry. Fine actors like Sayaji Shinde, Suman and Atul Kulkarni and Prathap Pothen are wasted in insipid roles. The songs of Mani Sharma are peppy numbers which will appeal to the masses. The one, picturised in Swiss Alps is hummable

According to Nondikizhi the story is scripted as Vijay’s dad a trusty military officer who gets murdered by his colleagues Prakash Raj & Co-Villains. The goon’s then paint a picture that Vijay’s dad is a traitor and they strip his body because of this village people bans final rites of Vijay’s dad, his Mother (Ranjani) also tattooed that she is “Traitor’s Wife”.
Younger Vijay who grows up with his dad’s friend a commissioner who helps him to destroy all the villains. Purposely to revenge all baddies Vijay loves Nayanthara to get contact with Prakash Raj(dad of Nayanthara) and similarly with others. The remaining part of the movie is how Vijay takes revenges on baddie’s & whether he truly fell in love with Nayanthara or not???
Vadivelu comedy scenes are a plus to the movie but after interval it was totally missing. Vijay known as a dancer done his part well, Nayanthara is chic and glam throughout the movie and also tried some comedy sequences. Devi Sri Prasad composed some great tracks which were well choreographed. About Director Prabhu Deva he trust too much on masala than subjects anyway great dancer and a dedicated personality.
As a whole the movie is based on old revenge story with some newer inputs of visualization. As the Villu fight scenes leaked on net they were still giggles all around after seeing that stunt sequences. The movie is sluggish at some place even the normal audiences can identify what’s going to happen in the next??? I conclude that those who doesn’t like to watch any new things on cinema it will be a pure entertainer only to an extent.

Frankly speaking, the Prakash Raj- Radha Mohan combo's Abhiyum Naanum is nowhere in the league of their previous oeuvre Mozhi. With a touching title like that, one would have thought the director would have a more solid script, but somehow it fails to strike a chord like their earlier film. But having said that, if you are still looking for a different kind of cinematic experience, then, it’s worth a look. The beauty of the film lies in the outstanding performance of Prakash Raj. The film is about the relationship between a father who is extremely fond and possessive about his daughter, he comes out with a sterling performance.
The story is simple and straightforward. Reghuram (Prakash Raj) an estate manager in a tea estate near Ooty, meets Sudhakar (Pritviraj) in one of his early morning walks as the latter finds it difficult to manage his little daughter in a kids park. Reghu gets nostalgic and starts chatting up about his most priced procession- Abhi, his daughter to Sudhakar a total stranger who listens in rapt attention.
Reghu starts the story from the day his daughter was born till when she goes away after marriage. The story covers her joining pre KG, her adolescent years, and when she goes to Delhi for higher studies and comes back with a new guy in her life Joginder Singh (Ganesh Venkatraman). This is heartbreaking for Reghu the over protective father who becomes jealous, anxious and also falls into deep depression. It is a simple story that tries to say the message that you should try to understand and reach across to your children, if we have to understand ourselves.
The film starts well but somewhere along the way it peters out and just does not unfold quickly. A beggar who Abhi takes a fascination as a child is welcomed into Reghuram's family and over the years becoming a part of the family, is hard to swallow. Joginder Singh's extended family of survivors from Delhi bomb blast, Mumbai train blast, Gujarat carnage etc just doesn't wash. Joginder 'an independent journalist (??) and an economist' talking directly over phone to the Prime Minister is absurd. Some kind of logic or believability, is absent in the script.
The film's fatal flaw is its packaging, which is not convincing and at time too preachy and drags big time post interval. The Punjabi family act in the second half spoils otherwise a serious film, and drives you up the wall. Another major let down is the music of Vidayasagar, if Mozhi was his magnum opus, in Abhiyum Naanum he is falling flat. The first half looks like Prakash Raj doing Steve Martin act of Father of the Bride, while the second half is very similar to Robert De Niro meeting Ben Stiller in Meet the Parents!
Yet for an audience fed up of recent mindless love stories and action extravaganzas, this one from Duet Movies is definitely worth a dekko for Prakash Raj's performance. He is the pivot around which the film revolves. His comedy scenes in the first half are a scream, especially the way he mugs, thinking he has to pass a GK examination for parents of children applying in a prestigious school for admission in Pre- KG! And in the second half his anguish is tangible; you can feel the earnestness of his intentions and the wetness of his tears. Hats off to you Prakash, only you can do it.
Trisha as Abhi has come out with her best ever performance, and is super tops. Her outburst against her father when he comes quietly behind her as she cycles to school for the first time, and her tears in the final airport scene is well etched. Aishwarya as her practical mother is dignified, while characters like Manobala, Thalaivasal Vijay and new boy Ganesh are apt for their roles. Count among other things Preeta's eye- catching camera, with the mist scenes shot in Munnar standing out. If only Radha Mohan had a far more tighter script, it would have been far more enjoyable.
Watch Abhiyum Naanum only for the father and daughter pair – Prakash Raj and Trisha, they make the film work to a certain extent.

M S Bhaskar role as an advisor of Sarathy creates immense problems to him and the character is build well. Under the Capitol Film Works banner, S P Charan has started his next venture Aranya Kaandam and a puja was held to mark the same at his Kodandapani Studios. Present on the occasion were SP Balasubramaniam, Gangai Amaran and AM Ratnam along with the cast and crew of the film.
The film stars Sampath Raj, Jackie Shroff, Ravi Krishna and newcomer Yasmin. Thiagrajan Kumararaja is the debut director who opens his Kollywood innings with this film. He has done several ad films apart from indulging in some script and dialogue writing for various films. This is a gritty gangster film which has all the masala of a commercial entertainer. Ask them why they chose Jackie Shroff for the movie and Thiagrajan replies, “The role demands it.”
While Sampath Raj plays the role of a gangster called Pasupathy, hero Ravi Krishna claims that his role is very different from what he has done so far. “I was looking for a break away from the Netru Indru Nalai mode and this film gave me that platform. You will see very different heroes in this film,” says he. Thiagarajan adds “Ravi Krishna has been very accommodating to do a multi star film like this. He is a producers’ son and so he understands what the film needs.”
The shooting commences tomorrow. Let’s see what new elements Charan infuses into this film. Going by the posters which have the visual feel of a comic book, the film seems to arouse curiosity alright.

Silambattam is a typical mass masala entertainer. It is another 'Formulaic' film revolving around a larger than life hero, who romances, does comedy, speaks only in punchlines, has deep sentimental bond with his family, and is a one-man fighting machine who emerges triumphant in the end! The tested formula has worked wonders for an array of young stars who were inspired largely by the Superstar Rajinikanth. Simbu also wants to be a popular mass hero and the route he has taken is doing such films which appeals to a large section of Tamil audiences who doesn't enjoy films that test's intellect and imagination.
There is nothing original about the story; it has been etched from various Tamil, Telugu and an old Hindi film. What makes the film watchable is the packaging, which moves at a rapid pace, though at times this 2 hour 45 minute film tests your patience.
Vichu (Simbu) is an appavi (innocent) temple priest who is brought up by his grandfather (Nedumudi Venu) as a coward. Janu (Sana Khan), his neighbour, a talkative, pretty Brahmin girl is crazy about Vichu but she wants him to be brave and smart. But behind the coy and innocence, our hero Vichu has another side to him. Like an elephant he does not know his strength and soon he uses it against some local goons who come in his way.
Dorai Singam (Kishore) a local MLA who is a thug, lords over the area and he wants to take procession of villagers land for building a beer factory. His rival Muthuvel (Prabhu) who was in jail comes out and crosses sword with Dorai. But Vichu intervenes and he beats Dorai’s men single-handedly. Muthvel is shocked to see Vichu who has a striking resemblance with his younger brother Tamizh(Simbu) who was killed by Dorai. What is the connection between Tamizh and Vichu? All the drama unfolds in the second half.
Actually the first half is a bit slow with Santhanam’s crude comedy and the romance of Vichu and Janu . After the censors gave more than a dozen cuts and an UA certificate, the film still reeks of double entendre, crude gags, crass toilet jokes, and lots of blood and gore. But the story gains tempo and unfolds in a racy manner in the latter half with a well-shot Tamizh’s introductory song and his cute romance with Gayathri (Sneha).
Silambattam is not devoid of faults – Double meaning dialogues, the girls massaging Panchamritham on Vichu’s body and excessive violence when a 10-year-old is on a killing spree and songs pushed into the narrative in the first half.
The scenes that stand out are the lead to the climax, when Vichu in Billa get-up meets the villain and the punchlines that follow are a scream, Karunas subtle comedy that evokes laughter, the beautiful visuals atop a train with Tamizh-Gayathri romance, pleasing photography by Saravanan, action scenes by Kanal Kannan, spunky choreography and Yuvan’s songs and background score are noteworthy.
Simbu dances like a dream and shines in this film with a performance that is measured and meticulous. As the cheerily upbeat Tamizh and the innocent Vichu he invests an equal amount of energy and style. Sana Khan looks lovely and makes an earnest attempt in the acting department too but in a film like this, that's plenty effort. Sneha does her bit with grace while Prabhu is just ok. Kishore is menacing as the villain.

Sun Pictures to Produce Superstar’s “ENDHIRAN”
Chennai, 17th Dec 2008: SUN TV Network Ltd One of India’s largest entertainment conglomerate today announced that it would be producing the movie titled “ENDHIRAN (The ROBOT)”. “ENDHIRAN” is India’s biggest project in terms of grandeur, splendor and Star Cast.
It is Superstar Rajinikanth’s next live action movie. This Multi crore project is to be directed by Shankar, Music is by AR Rahman and Aishwarya Rai stars along with Rajinikanth.
The film will be released simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and other languages by the end of next year. Sun Pictures, the movie division of Sun TV Network Limited will be handling the production. This project promises to be the first of its kind in terms of CG (Computer Graphics), Special effects and Stunt Sequences. Top Notch technicians from Hollywood are being roped in for this movie making this project truly global.
Sun Pictures today officially announced the project with Superstar Rajinikanth, Mr. Shankar and Sun TV Network Limited’s Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Kalanithi Maran. Sun Pictures Chief Operating Officer Mr. W Hansraj Saxena and the cinematographer of the film Mr. Rathnavel were also present.
Mr. Kalanithi Maran said “This is a big moment for Sun Pictures as we feel this is going to be India’s biggest movie. We are very happy and proud to be associated with Superstar Rajinikanth, Shankar and A R Rahman. With this Sun Pictures shall scale greater heights internationally”.

Bharathiraja is back. The fire in him still burns bright as he has come out with Bommalattam an edge-of-the-seat, intelligent and absorbing thriller. At a time when we are bombarded with mediocre stuff here is superior quality cinema. Perfect casting, superb packaging and brilliant performances by lead actors make it a must watch. Armed with the film’s best written role as Rana, the maverick film director, Nana Patekar rocks and proves again why he is one of the best actors in Indian cinema.
Rana (Nana Patekar) is a brilliant director, who is eccentric and unpredictable. He is an award winning director who makes films which are aesthetic and has an appeal among the elite audiences. He is also a perfectionist and demands a lot from his cast and crew, though his personal life is in shambles as his nagging wife (Ranjita) is always suspicious about him.
While directing a film, Rana fires the heroine who is unprofessional. He replaces her with a new girl Trishna (Ragini), whom he discovers and finds that she is an excellent actress. But on the day when he is going to introduce her to the media before the release of the film, the car in which they were traveling fall off a cliff and explode. Rana escapes with minor injuries and Trishna dies.
The investigation is handed over to CBI led by a smart investigative officer Vivek Varma (Arjun). Vivek links two earlier murders that had happened on Rana’s sets to the accidental death of Trishna. He takes the maverick director for questioning. Vivek Varma has his own axe to grind against Rana, as his girl friend Anita (Kajal Agarwal), a fanatic fan of the director has joined him as his assistant.
The rest of the film is told in flashbacks. Is Rana behind the mysterious murders on his sets? Will Vivek be able to nab him with conclusive proof? All this unfolds in the last 30 minutes of the film as the suspense mounts, leading to a stunning and a riveting climax never seen before, which is spellbinding.
Go see the film for Nana Patekar, he lives the role of the troubled film director. He pours a lot of heartfelt emotions into the film's more dramatic moment. The scene where director Rana acts out a romantic encounter between his wooden hero and his leading lady and his wife barging into the sets and throwing a fit and his stony silence is riveting. Nana is mesmerizing as you can feel the characters anguish and ruminations.
Arjun is icy cool and is perfect foil for Nana, and he pulls it off with his characteristic style. The new girl Ragini as Trishna is apt for the role and has come out with a very convincing performance and is the pivot around which the film revolves. Kajal Agarwal hardly has any role and is pure eye candy. Vivek's comedy track tickles the funny bone and is superb, while Manivannan as the lecherous landlord is perfect.
Himmesh Reshammiya's music is just ok, but the first duet could have been avoided. Two more songs are thrust into the narration which sticks out like a sore thumb. At the same time the film is exquisitely photographed and editing is crisp.
On the whole, hats off to Bharathiraja for creating a taut thriller which is a masterpiece of moods, anxieties and dread. Quite simply, unmissable.

The much awaited movie by director Bharathiraja will finally see light and if everything goes well will hit the theatres on December 12th. The movie has been in the making for three years and the buzz is that the director is finally relieved to release the movie this month.
Bommalattam is the upcomming movie by director Bharathiraja starring Arjun and Nana Patekar in the lead roles. The film is to be released in Hindi as Cinema and in Telugu as Kalidas. This will mark actor Arjun’s Bollywood debut while Nana Patekar will make his Tamil debut.
The movie is a crime thriller based on an event that took place in Hampi and the climax is stunnin according to the director. Nag Ravi of Insight Media has taken over the theatrical distribution of the film in Tamilnadu. Tamil version of the film will be released on December 12, worldwide.
The music of the film is composed by Himesh Reshammiya (of Dasavatharam fame).

The original Malayalam film was brilliant, as it depicted the story of a lazy laidback guy who dabbles in everything and fails without realizing his core strengths. The problem with Shaji Kailas’s Ellam Avan Seyal a remake of his own Chintamani Kolacase is its non-happening, unbelievable and infantile script which is dark and dreary. Shaji obviously wanted to make it stylishly with spot editing (Don Max), which resulted in giving the film a superficial gloss without any narrative.RK hams as his acting lacks heat and passion and most of the time he has a stupid grin with a weird make-up of an oily curly hair and kohl eyes. The characterization of the hero LK or Laxman Krishna (RK) and the basic plot of the movie have been etched out of the Hollywood film “The Star Chamber” (1983).
RK is a brilliant criminal lawyer who helps the bad and evil escape from law using legal technicalities and loopholes. LK (He says he has License to Kill) feels he is both “advocate and judge for the scum of the earth”- a guy who rapes his teacher, a father who uses his daughter etc.
For him, it is an alternative system of justice, a new method of punishing the guilty by passing his own judgment over them in his own exclusive court! He seeks revenge for the victim and metes out vigilante justice. Phew the killing spree starts! After each killing our hero mouths some Sanskrit slokas followed by English idioms. He says he is following the “cosmic law”!
The rest of the film is about how our vigilante lawyer takes up the case as defending lawyer for nine rich NRI girls (Better known as ‘Mirchi’ girls in the Medical college) who are the main accused in ragging and killing Sinthamani(Bhama) a poor medical student!
LK does the impossible by hooking up evidences and finally the nine girls are left free. But the mystery behind Sinthamani’s murder is totally different and how our hero takes revenge on the real killers in a blood soaked climax forms the rest of the story.
Raguvaran makes his last appearance on screen as a smooth and cool CBI officer on the trail of LK. Nassar hams as a bumbling cop. Manoj.K Jayan has to just leer on screen, while Ashish Vidyarthi has to grimace make faces and play the perfect villain. Manivannan does the sob act as the father of the murdered girl. Bhama has to do the innocent girl act, while Vadivel does his own dumb comedy track devoid of any genuine gut busters. The ‘Mirchi’ girl’s characters are bizarre and outlandish.
There are a lot of gory, repulsive scenes like Bhama being ragged by ‘Mirchi’ girls and made to marry and kiss a corpse in the college laboratory No comments on Vidyasagar’s music. Sadly the whole film lacks a cohesive plot and is strung around a couple of clichéd subplots, predictable twists, hackneyed dialogues and some badly etched out characters.

Who can resist a good love story? But sadly, if there's only one reason which makes Mahesh Saranya Matrum Palar watchable is Shakti who plays lead role as a dutiful elder brother. He is in very good form even though the film isn't, with its old-fashioned plot points and characters. But it's not entirely unwatchable due to the manner in which it is narrated and the final twist in the story. Mahesh (Shakthi) comes back to his family from Chennai where he is studying, for the wedding of his sister Keerthana (Saranya) whom he dotes on. He starts telling her about a girl Saranya (Sandhya) whom he accidentally meets and falls in love. Slowly, at regular intervals this narration continues as everyone on the large household joins one by one to hear Mahesh’s love story. Finally on the day of Keerthana’s marriage a twist in the story happens as Shakthi is forced to confess about the climax of his love story that leaves everyone shocked!
There's a desperate need for reinvention to script writers in Tamil who etch out an assortment of 80s-style supporting characters like a whole lot of members in a joint family who sing, dance and play badminton together. All of them are clichéd caricatures like men in white veshtis, ladies in kachivaram sarees, daughters, a good-for-nothing son-in-law and plenty of children.
Shakthi delivers an earnest performance but fail to rise above the flawed script. He leaves an indelible impression with a performance that is understated and mature. Saddest of all, is that the on-screen chemistry one expects in a film of this nature is truly missing between him and Sandhya who looks a mismatch and their romance lacks any spark.
Sandhya the leading lady of the film has no role to speak of. She might have been a pleasant distraction, had she paid closer attention to her styling and make-up. Santhanam just about scrapes through the comedy scenes with a few light moments. As Mahesh’s cute little sister, Saranya has a lengthier role than Sandhya, and she does a neat job.
On the whole, this love story fails to touch your heart. If you're not very fussy about wanting to watch something smart and original, then give this film a chance, it's just ok
