Kalanidhi versus Dayanidhi

It is a battle royale! Sun TV Network and its boss the dynamic Kalanidhi Maran is going to release his Sun Pictures new Jeeva film Thenavattu on the same day as Surya's Gautham Menon masterpiece Vaaranam Aayiram on November 14.
On the face of it, two films releasing in different genre means nothing in Kollywood. But below the grease and paint there is tension in the atmosphere.
Remember how Kalanidhi Maran had to wage a lone battle to get his film Kathalil Vizhunthen released in Madurai, the citadel of his bête-noire Azhagiri?
Well this time around Vaaranam Aayiram is being distributed in Tamilnadu by Azhagiri's son Dayanidhi's film concern 'Cloud Nine'! Kala is determined that his Thenavattuwill release on the same day, leading to tension in the trade.
Sun TV has already started the Thenavattu campaign on the full blast, with its trailer being shown at regular intervals. The film has music by Srikanth Deva, had all its songs re-shot, though the audio is no patch on Harris Jayaraj's Vaaranam Aayiram which is already a huge hit! Kalaingar TV which holds the television rights of the movie too has whipped up a campaign.
Sun TV bosses are confident that Thenavattu with Jeeva and Poonam Bajwa has a unique treatment by director V.V Kathir, and it may upset the biggie. But Vaaranam Aayiram carries super reports and is expected to take the years biggest ever opening, as advance booking starts in Chennai city from November 10.

He held his first shoot with Aishwarya Rai in the forests of Malayatoor near Kochi in Kerala for Mani Ratnam's tri-lingual film in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu titled tentatively Ravana in Hindi and Asokavanam in Tamil.
Vikram plays the hero in the Tamil and Telugu version, while he plays a character with shades of black in the Hindi version.
Aishwarya and her husband Abhishek Bachchan who play hero and heroine in the Hindi version, arrived in Kochi on Thursday(Oct 30) morning and straightaway joined the unit.
The Bachchans were late in joining the unit as they were held up in Mumbai, looking after the ailing Amitabh Bachchan who was hospitalised last fortnight. Their entire shooting schedule had gone wrong, and Mani's film was the worst affected.
Meanwhile Vikram who has completed the entire shoot of his Susi Ganesan directed Kandasami has devoted next three months for Mani Ratnam's film.
Vikram wants to keep his new look a top secret, till January when he will be actively involved in promoting Kanthasamy, which will be a Pongal release

Mammootty's bi-lingual film in Tamil (Aruvadai) and Malayalam (Vande Mataram) with 'action king' Arjun and Sneha will be a Pongal 2009 release.
The producer of Aruvadai, Henry confirmed that he has almost completed the entire shoot of the film and only some patchwork remains.
The film directed by debutant T.Aravind is an action entertainer and tells the story of a group of sincere officers from the intelligence agency RAW who are fighting an international terrorist organization that tries to infiltrate the country.
The central investigative agency RAW finds that the head of the terrorists group, by the name 'Malik' has crossed the borders to carry out deadly explosions in the southern part of the country!
Mammootty plays the officer who heads the investigation while Arjun will play the local police commissioner who does all the action.
Sneha is Mammootty's wife, a pilot in the film. Arjun has also a lady love Shradha Arya in the film which has music by Vidyasagar.
The climax scenes of the film were shot recently on the beaches in Kanyakumari and Hyderabad.
Says producer Henry: "It is a big budget action masala film which will be a rollicking entertainer. The subject is topical at a time when we had so many bomb blasts. Aruvadai is also a patriotic film. It will release big in three south Indian languages Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam for Pongal 2009

Nayan bothered about AEGAN’s fate

Nayantara who was interviewed recently by a well known channel on the occasion of diwali made astonishing statements against her latest release AEGAN. When she was projected with the question that the movie has got a bitter response on the first day itself, Nayan cleared the air that she is least bothered about AEGAN anymore and also added that it was headache of the hero Ajith and not of her.
She also revealed that she has received her remuneration and accordingly has acted in the film with a lot of oomph added to her acting skills. And so she has no reason to bother about the movie’s fate and claims that she never regrets about her past movies.
These words were minced by the Television Channel, but were released in the newspaper. Nayan’s words seem to make the audience feel that she has spoken the truth and has given her best to the film.

The shooting schedule of Namitha-starrer Jagan Mohini at Talakona forests in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh has been completed by the unit, including the lead pair, who camped at the thick forests for five days and extensively shot at various scenic locations. Hearing the arrival of film stars, people of the surrounding villages dashed to the venue to have their glimpse.
The unit will soon take up the next schedule at Vizag, followed by a trip to Andaman and Nicobar islands by September end. The climax will be shot in the picturesque islands of Andaman and Nicobar. The film will be completed by December and is likely to hit the screens in January 2009.
Jagan Mohini is a remake of the yesteryear classic Jagan Mohini (1978), directed by Vitallacharya, in which Narasimha Raju and Jayamalini played the title roles. The current version is being produced by H. Murali and directed by N.K. Viswanathan.
Narasimha Raju, who performed the role of the hero in the old movie, has a part to play in the new version as the father of the hero Raja. Gorgeous Namitha performs the character performed by Jayamalini in the original. After a brief gap, Nila (Meera Chopra in Telugu) is back in Tamil as the second heroine.
Filmmakers claim that the major highlight of the film will be a scene in which glamorous Namitha harvests pearls underwater. It is said that Namitha has been given special training for this particular scene. The music is by maestro Ilayaraja, who probably, for the first time, visited the shooting spot of Jagan Mohini recently at Tirumalai Nayak Palace, where the puja for the film was held

Poonam Bhajwa who struggled in the Telugu film industry to get a big break has found her solace in Kollywood. Her two films title Seval hited the screen and Thenavattu are ready to hit the screens are more offers are said to be pouring for this bubbly beauty.
With her wax like structure and white complexion, Poonam Bhajwa made her debut into tollywood. But she did not get the gauge in the Telugu film industry. At the same time there is local feudal landlord and village head (Sampath), who has an eye on Parijatham, which leads to a conflict with Murugesan, who has now turned a new leaf to win over his girl!

Meanwhile after delivery Gayathri suffering from cancer dies leaving Parijatham holding the baby. The orthodox Brahmin Agraharam relatives and friends force her to marry her brother-in-law!

On a parallel track, a heart broken Murugesan tries to save her from a lusting relative (Krishna) and the village head. Want to hear more of this dumb story?

The film just drives you crazy, and story telling itself is confusing with a lot of plot holes. At times it is hard to tell what the film is about, though it is very predictable at every turn as Hari has taken certain scenes and situations from his earlier films!

Totally devoid of any original snatches of writing, the film plods along for nearly 2 hours and 45 minutes. In the first half there are some comedy scenes between Vadivel and Bharat which raises a few laughs, but after some time it becomes repetitive.

Vadivel is present throughout the film, as the postman who is more interested in playing cupid between the hero and heroine. Simran’s character and her make-up (post interval) has not been well etched. New girl Poonam is just ok as she lacks screen presence in a meaty role.

Bharat does what Hari’s heroes have done in the past with style but has been let down by a poor script as some of the characters action is not justifiable.

On the technical side Priyan’s camera is a plus point and the locales are lush and he used the Jimmy –Jip crane to the maximum, to get top-angle shots.

One of the biggest disappointments is the music of G.V Prakash, who has not been able to churn out a single melody.

Sense, style and story is missing in Seval All in all a very disappointing venture from Hari who has given entertaining films in the past
